Who Am I

My name is David Shevitz, and it is my honor and privilege to both study and teach Kokikai Aikido, a modern style of aikido founded by Sensei Shuji Maruyama. I am currently the chief instructor at Aikido Kokikai South Everett, located just north of Seattle, WA.

I began writing this blog in an effort to keep my theorizing off the mat, yet still give me a chance to “think through” a lot of what goes through my mind when I’m analyzing my own aikido practice. I admit that the blog has only been moderately successful in this regard–I’m afraid I still do some considerable theorizing on the mat. Myy students, I think, would tend to agree, but are fortunately quite good natured.

When I’m not studying aikido or writing about it, I’m at work in the software industry as a programmer writer. I also have a wonderful wife, a fantastic daughter, a happy baby boy, and two very goofy dogs.

I originally thought that this blog would be my own little corner of the internet. I tend to lose notebooks and such, so I figured something online would be much harder to lose. Now, however, I’m meeting more and more people who find something either entertaining or valuable in what I write. Thanks! For those who would like to contact me in regards to exchanging links and such, you can reach me at: aikido[dot]instructor[at]gmail[dot]com.

  1. I know class is only an hour in length so you have to find a median between theory and practice. I however do appreciate the theorizing. I joined Aikido for as much internal self exploration as well as the outer exploration. Thank you.

  2. So…
Now I know who you are but have no idea WHERE you are.
My wife Anne and I are 5th Dans, USAF and teach in our small dojo known as AIKIDO OF TRY-CO-LAN, LLC located just south of Tryon NC.
